In front the horizon shimmers, a straight line. The plane keeps in trim flying straight and level. Above, the clear blue sky. Beneath the green earth. So life is navigated, harmonising the forces that steady the second dimension. What lies above and what lies below.
In the sky and beyond, roam the things of the mind and the spirit. Those ephemeral fields where untethered animal totems frolic. Imaginings and dreams canter on without boundary or restraint. Here lies my final freedom, the realm where I can choose to be anything. The Elysian Fields, beyond death and out of pain’s reach. Here lies the true experience of transcendence.

In the black and fertile earth, the body must toil and sweat and the heart must bleed. The privilege of this life is it calls on all mortals. And life must be lived. Grounded comes with feeling and experience. Reality resides in the crying baby and exhaustion. It inhabits unpaid bills and the washing basket. Anger and resentment walk hand in hand with joy and delight. Daily round and duty make fertile the dark loam where newness springs forth.
I will pass from my mother’s womb, crying and suckling. There is no escape here, life will have me. And when finally, life is done – with me, I will enter another womb. I will be transported from this moment and will be seen no more. Between that day and this, between birth and death, I will have my chance to walk in the sky. My feet will always be in the clay, but my spirit will fly. I will touch the sun. I will become a god.
The clear bright sun soon sinks below the conscious horizon and brings the darkness of night. The poise of dawn and dusk is the daily dance of light and dark, night and day. Good and evil. Wandering spirit and grounded heart. Lofty ideals and obligation.
I am a spirit in this material world. I am on the isthmus standing between jangling sounds and strident voices and deep profound silence. Again it is evening and I stand in my garden. I see a train of ants marching to the carcass of a cricket. I see each insect and the drama playing out. I see each detail. I close my eyes, breath in and see the edge of the universe. I enter the silence. I’m coming
