By any standards this out-and-back course is a beautiful run. Tough in parts, it is a dream race on the most scenic drive in Cape Town, if not South Africa. From the start in Clifton the coastal road takes you through Camps Bay, Bakoven and past Llandudno. There is a tough climb up Little Lion’s Head but once over this, the turning point at Hout Bay Harbour comes into view below.
The race earns its name as you loop around the engaging fishing village of Hout Bay. The run back will test any runner over the business end of Suikerbossie, that most infamous two kilometre hill on the Cape Tour. It is steep, but this is Cape Town – walk, enjoy! From the top there are sweeping views of Llandudno, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. From here the run to the finish is relatively easy and most enjoyable.

This popular race is used by many as an early long training run, building up to Two Oceans and Comrades. The event incorporates a 15 kilometre race starting at 06H00 from Mainstream Mall in Hout Bay. It finishes along with the 30 kilometres event on the sports fields below Glen Country Club.
